General digital privacy suggestions

Here are some basic recommendations to stay private online.
  • Use a service that generates random email addresses for your accounts, such as SimpleLogin.
  • Use a VPN to hide your IP address and prevent your internet service provider from monitoring your traffic, Proton VPN and Mullvad VPN are proven to be secure. Almost all free VPNs harvest your data, Proton VPN does have a private tier.
  • Avoid Chrome as your browser. Google collects your borwsing data even when in Private Browsing mode.
  • Install and adblocker extension. Ublock and Adguard are the most recommended.
  • Don't reuse usernames across website. This makes it easy for individuals to find other accounts and possibly identifiable information you didn't realize you shared. THe internet never forgets.
Here are some recommended resources for further reading. Doing anything is better than nothing, so it isn't worth overwhelming yourself.
